Keller Estate 2016 Oro De Plata Chardonnay, Sonoma Coast, CA
Keller Estate’s Oro de Plata (“Gold from Silver”) is a bright, mineral-driven wine made of 100% Chardonnay from the winery’s estate vineyards. This gorgeous wine shimmers with a light yellow color – almost like sunshine glistening through the glass. The nose offers a depth of aromas – fresh golden apple, crisp pear and tart pineapple, with subtle mineral, white peach and orange creamsicle notes. Bright and textured on the palate, each sip leads to a lingering, full finish and will continue to impress as it opens up in your glass.

The Vineyard and Terroir:
The terroir at Keller Estate is defined by the Petaluma Gap, a region which is subject to two major maritime influences. The San Pablo Bay lies immediately to the south, and to the northwest is an opening in the coastal hills which allows masses of fog from the Pacific to flow freely through the Petaluma Valley. This geographical signature is unique and creates a long, cool growing season for the vineyards. This climate is ideal for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, which both thrive in cooler climates. Because of the unique terroir and the team's dedication to excellent winemaking, the resulting wines from Keller Estate vineyards are consistently well-balanced, complex and elegant. Keller Estate farms organically and is sustainably certified.
Additional Winemaker Notes:
- Fruit for this wine comes from 3 vineyard sections. Block 6, planted in 1998 to the Wente Clone, is the floral and aromatic backbone of the Oro de Plata. The second block is planted to Robert Young clones, adding a rich texture to the wine. Block 5 was planted to Clone 4 in 1989 (the oldest vineyard) and provides structure and bracing acidity, along with bright apple and pear flavors.
- Aged in neutral oak barrels without malolactic fermentation
