Keller Estate 2015 Pinot Noir, La Cruz Vineyard, Sonoma Coast
From one of Keller Estate Winery's signature vineyards, the La Cruz Pinot Noir shines with evidence of an ancient sea bed imparting minerality and bright acidity. Translucent pale ruby on inspection, this fragrant wine springs to life with aromas of pronounced luscious red cherry, strawberry-raspberry preserves and wild currants, along with cola, rose pedals and sage. The flavors are just as delightful and fruit forward with a mouthful of tart cherry glaze, nutmeg and hints of black pepper and dried flowers. ~Tasting Notes by Denise Cody, Chief Operating Angel

The Vineyard:
La Cruz Vineyard
About The Vineyard:
Located on the Keller Estate in the Petaluma Gap, the La Cruz Vineyard is rich in minerals with clay soils. Crisp coolness and a fog blanket lead to warmer late morning temps followed by mid-afternoon cooling maritime breezes bringing the evening fog. This unique, cooling "wind tunnel" effect results in lower yields and grapes that reach physiological ripeness much later and at lower sugar levels while developing intense flavors with ideal levels of acidity. Planted to Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Viognier and Pinot Gris, the vineyard is sustainably certified and incorporates practices derived from organics, permaculture, and biodynamics learned over the years. These practices include bee-keeping, owl and bat boxes, a carefully managed flock of over 200 sheep that graze and fertilize the land, and careful management of the pond system that ensures the water supply.
Winemaker:
Julien Teichmann
About The Winemaker:
German-born Julien traveled the world working harvests and finally came to the U.S. in 2013 where he spent time at Kosta Browne and Merry Edwards before joining Keller Estate in May 2018. Critical in Julien's career has been profound respect for the vineyard and a holistic approach to farming and winemaking, making him a perfect fit.
Winemaker Notes:
- The core of La Cruz Pinot Noir comes from the Pommard clone, which creates a wine with a dense and elegant backbone. Clones 667 & 777 are added for bright fruit and mouth-watering acidity. Small percentages of other clones provide delicacy and spice bringing all the varietal components together seamlessly.
- Aged 10 months in oak barrel
