Iron Horse Vineyards 2014 Winter's Cuvée Tasting Notes:
The holidays are here, and there’s nothing that gets us more excited than exceptionally-crafted sparkling wine! Iron Horse, a pioneer in the Green Valley appellation within the Russian River Valley of Sonoma County, has been producing vintage bubbly of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay since 1980.
The 2014 Winter’s Cuvée is made with holiday festivities in mind and will elevate any celebration! Visually stunning, the barely-there color is why it is coined “Winter White” – with just a kiss of faint pale gold. The bubbles are so tiny and delicate, persistent and glistening like little stars. Delightful aromas of baked apple, lemon tart, sweet nectarine and subtle hints of vanilla caramel custard. On the medium palate, the bubbles are refreshing and delicately lingering, but not overly zesty, offering a balanced richness. Well-integrated flavors of crème brule, white peach, lime and hint of baking spice make it impossible to put this flute down! Only 300 cases were made, so be sure to secure yours now to enjoy special pricing and a fun VIP Angel Bonus offer with a case purchase.

Iron Horse Estate Vineyard
About the Vineyard:
The Iron Horse estate is located 13 miles from the Pacific Ocean in the heart of Green Valley, with rolling hills, and a spectacular view across Sonoma County to Mount St. Helena. Exclusively planted to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, the vineyard’s approximately 160 acres are predominately “Goldridge” soil, a sandy loam with excellent drainage – a coveted soil for growing Pinot Noir. The estate is divided into 39 blocks, farmed individually, harvested separately and then each vinified as a ‘single vineyard’. Each has been planted with site specific root-stock and clone selections. All pruning, canopy management, irrigation, and cover crop decisions are determined on a block-by-block (and sometimes even vine-by-vine) basis, considering both the vintage and the long-term needs of the land.
Winemaker:
David Munksgard
About the Winemaker:
Winemaker David Munksgard is an enologist and a graduate of the enology/viticulture program at California State University, Fresno. He joined the extended Iron Horse family in 1996, bringing with him 16 years of experience in producing both sparkling and still wine in California's Russian River Valley and New York's Finger Lakes region. Of winemaking David has noted, “For those of us fortunate enough to be making wine, it is not that we should be winemakers, we simply MUST be winemakers. Nothing else will satisfy that need to craft; to imprint onto and into our wines what we feel and see when we walk the vineyard and dream of what it might be.”

Additional Winemaker Notes:
At Iron Horse, "Estate Bottled" means that the winemaking begins in the vineyard. Green Valley represents the very best soil, climate and aspects for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, and the team's goal is to grow the best wine grapes through "precision farming." All pruning, canopy management, irrigation and cover crop decisions are determined on a block-by-block (and sometimes even vine-by-vine) basis, considering both the vintage at hand and the long-term needs of the land.
