Inspiration Vineyards Estate 2010 Chardonnay, Russian River Valley, Sonoma, CA
Inspiration Vineyards Estate 2010 Chardonnay
This beautiful Chardonnay may just inspire you to drop everything and take a trip out to wine country. Ripe apple, orange blossom, vanilla and butterscotch jump out of the glass while nuances of Brioche and toasty oak linger in the background. Inspired by the Chardonnays of Northern Burgundy, France, this wine was aged sixteen months in French and European oak, 10% of which was new. Aged sur lie until bottling, the winemaker also employed both cultured and natural yeast. On the palate this wine is extraordinarily elegant with excellent balance and a bright rush of acidity. This is both very food friendly and age worthy, although keeping the bottle unopened may be the biggest challenge of all.
Drink now or hold 5+ years. Because it is made in the Burgundian style, those who like aged white Burgundy wines will appreciate this wine aged.

Barbara and Jon Phillips
About the Winemakers:
Winemakers Barbara and Jon Phillips produced their first barrel of wine in 1999 and after seeing their success, they became licensed and bonded in 2001 to produce wine commercially. This is a drastic change from John’s previous career in IT where he successfully worked in the Sonoma County, California area. Like many winemakers in northern California, winemaking is in John’s blood. His great-grandparents owned vineyards in the early 1900’s in San Martin, California. So in 2001 Barbara and John purchased 4.5 acres of vineyards in Sonoma County and in 2002 expanded to contract with another winery so they could produce their first commercial wines. In June of 2003 they officially released their first vintage, with production around 500 barrels. In more recent years they have continued to expand and grow, opening a tasting room and offering daily tours.
About the Vineyard:
As a small production winery, every part of the process is important in the pursuit of creating memorable wine. When Barbara and Jon Phillips selected the land for their vineyards they found the perfect location to watch their dreams to come true. Their vineyards are planted on flat lands in an area with generally consistent temperatures and cool evenings, allowing the grapes to slowly ripen, enhancing the depth of flavor. However, they do have the challenge of north and south-facing vineyards, which means that canopy management is important. Greenery from the vines must be handled delicately so there is perfect balance in the amount of sun the grapes receive, allowing them to ripen properly, and not letting them get too much sun which would result in burnt grapes. In the winemaking world there is a philosophy that mediocre wine can be made from great grapes, but you can’t make great wines from mediocre grapes. The Phillips strive to create exceptional wines from excellent grapes resulting in high quality wine that is affordable and food friendly.
