Dry Creek Valley
Dry Creek Vineyard 2009 Meritage, Sonoma, CA
From the winery that produced the official wine of the 2011S.A.G. Awards and that invented the term Meritage comes this spectacular wine. Proprietor David S. Stare combined the words “merit” (referencing the merit of the vineyard) and “heritage” (the pedigree of the vines) to create the word Meritage. This Meritage was aged 28 months in a combination of French, American and Hungarian oak. Aromas of dark, baked and stewed fruits blend with hearty herbs, damp earth, mocha and hints of vanilla and coffee. A soft, pleasant mouthfeel is punctuated with high levels of tannin and acid. This is a full bodied, easy drinking Meritage that pairs perfectly with cool summer nights and picnics under the stars.

About the Vintage and Vineyard:
The 2009 vintage was a nearly perfect growing season. Light rain in the winter combined with moderate, consistent summer temperatures and optimal harvest conditions provided ideal fruit from which this exceptional blend was created. With fruit sourced from several vineyards, the characteristics of each varietal shine through in this wine. Dry Creek is committed to sustainable farming and has made an effort through multiple strategies to make sure they are leaders of the sustainable movement in the industry. Vineyard Manager Duff Bevill has more than 20 years of experience managing both Dry Creek Vineyard estate and contract vineyards. Duff manages 12 different vineyards for Dry Creek and in 2006 was awarded the Viticulture Award of Excellence by the Sonoma County Grape Growers Association.
About the Winemaker:
In 2011 Tim Bell took the reins as Winemaker and uses his years of experience in the industry constructing the final blend for the 2009 Meritage. Tim has worked in a wide range of winemaking environments producing varied styles of wine throughout his career. From the Central Coast to Sonoma and Napa Valley, Tim has made still, sparkling, Kosher and dessert wines during his time with wineries such as Freemark Abbey Winery and Kunde Family Estate. Tim says, “as I’ve tasted at the great wineries of California and France, I’ve discovered that the finest wines are from those places with authenticity, with heart and soul. It’s an approach that I bring to every wine I touch at Dry Creek Vineyard.” Read more aboutneed Carrie to load on our blog site, The Daily Flight.
