2015 Sauvignon Blanc
Napa Valley, CA
90% Sauvignon Blanc, 6% Semillon, 4% Sauvignon Musqué
Tasting Notes: The Sauvignon Blanc grapes that created this wine come from top vineyards throughout Napa Valley, including Phipps' growers’ estate ranches in Carneros, Coombsville, Rutherford & Calistoga. The superb fruit from these sites enables them to craft a rich, complex Sauvignon Blanc that is simultaneously fresh, crisp & zesty. The outstanding 2015 vintage blends 90% Sauvignon Blanc with 6% Semillon and 4% Sauvignon Musqué, an aromatic clone of Sauvignon Blanc. In 2015, they fermented 80% of the juice in stainless steel tanks and 20% in neutral French oak barrels, a regimen producing a deep, vibrant expression of Sauvignon Blanc. Bright, super-fresh aromas of sweet citrus, melon, guava and white flowers introduce pure, vibrant flavors of grapefruit, guava, gooseberry, fleshy melon and white peach, with a refreshing minerality invigorating the wine's long, crisp finish. Arguably one of Phipps' best-ever Sauvignon Blanc wines, this Napa Valley classic will age gracefully for the next 3-5 years and beautifully accompany your favorite salad, seafood, poultry and vegetable dishes. 150 cases made.
2013 "Sonoma County Ranches" Zinfandel
Dry Creek Valley and Russian River Valley, Sonoma County, CA
93% Zinfandel, 7% Petite Sirah
Tasting Notes: A Cabernet-lover's Zinfandel! The 2013 vintage was another banner vintage for Dry Creek Valley vintners. With generally mild weather throughout the growing season, harvest was mostly early, given the near perfect conditions from that summer. Then there was some timely cooling that allowed the Zinfandel to ripen and mature fully. Even some other local winemakers from the region agree. Clay Mauritson of Mauritson Wines says, “2013 was a fast and furious harvest... The quality is outstanding and, so far, the Zinfandels are the winner of the bunch. It could be the best in 10 years!” The 2013 Sonoma County Ranches Zin is powerful in wild blackberry, black raspberry and mulberry fruit, the wine also exhibits cola, mocha and chamomile notes liberally accented with crushed black pepper, dark chocolate, nutmeg and allspice. This wine finishes complex, long and absolutely dry. Drink now through 2025. Drink now through 2025. 50 Cases made.
2015 Cabernet Sauvignon
Napa Valley, CA
This wine combines fruit from two premium sub-AVAs within the Napa Valley: Rutherford and Oakville. True to the vibrant character of the 2015 vintage, our 2015 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits tremendous vitality and freshness. A dynamic opulence of dark fruit thrills the sense to reveal a taut, widening plane of lifted red fruit on the palate. Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon has baked black cherries, black berries and wild blueberries on the nose with hints of lavender and earth plus a touch of cloves. The palate is full-bodied and bursting with black berry and earthy flavors, supported by soft, rounded tannins and finishing with a hint of Rutherford Dust.
2016 Rosé of Zinfandel (Library Club Only)
Tasting Notes: Phipps specializes in wines made from Zinfandel, and this gorgous Rosé was made from their harvest. Grapes were handpicked, brought into the winery ice cold and destemmed and placed into a tank. After 24 hours, a saignée was done to concentrate the flavors in the Zinfandel and to capture juice for the Rosé. The Rosé was then fermented for 3 weeks until almost dry and then kept in a stainless steel tank until bottling. It displays fresh red strawberry & plum, hints of rose petal and cherry with a touch of orange blossom on the nose. This wine exhibits fresh strawberry & ripe raspberry upon entry and is round and lush on the front and mid-palate. Its delicate acidity makes it balanced and delicious with a hint of sweetness on the finish.
2014 Pinot Noir (Library Club Only)
Russian River Valley, Sonoma County, CA
100% Pinot Noir
Tasting Notes: The wine is aged in 100% French oak barrels for 24 months, of which about 35% are new. The 2014 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir exhibits dark cherry and cinnamon spice at its core. Faded rose, nutmeg and allspice complement the subtle notes of porcini and Oolong tea. Tightly wound on the palate at first, the wine expands out onto the mid-palate to deliver some wonderfully refreshing red fruits, citrus, and tea-like tannins. With its polish and grace, this wine exemplifies the beauty and power of a Russian River Valley Pinot Noir. It can be enjoyed in its youth or cellared for 3-6 years. Only 75 cases produced. Drink now through 2024
