The exquisite selections featured in our Holiday Wine Club release include celebration-worthy wines from two impressive producers: Le Chanceux in Napa Valley's Coombsville AVA and Iron Horse Vineyards located in the Green Valley AVA within the Russian River Valley of Sonoma County. ABOUT THE WINES: LE CHANCEUX

The 1-acre plot known as Le Chanceux’s Belles Filles Vineyard, was planted to Cabernet Sauvignon by Founders Robert and Susan McNerney. Le Chanceux ("The Lucky One") released its first vintage in 2006. With the talents of award-winning winemaker Jason Moore, this boutique family winery continues to prove itself a destination from which world class wines are produced.

Le Chanceux 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon

Grape(s): Cabernet Sauvignon
Tasting Notes: This Cabernet is 100% estate grown fruit on Le Chanceux’s 1-acre vineyard; hand crafted with minimal intervention and maximum attention. Aged for 24 months in French Oak, the wine shows off a vibrant translucent red in color with rich, welcoming aromas of fresh blackberry fruit, cedar and bakeshop spices. Palate is smooth, with good balance of acid and tannins. Fresh dark berry fruit, black tea and sweet oak lead to a long, lingering finish. Only 187 cases made.

Le Chanceux 2014 Mélange 
Double Gold, Finger Lakes NY International Wine Competition (2017) 
Napa Valley, CA
Grape(s): 53% Estate grown Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot, 4% Syrah
Tasting Notes: Nearly a traditional style Bordeaux Blend, plus a touch of Syrah! The Melange is a deeply concentrated, bright, deep red with ever so subtle glints of dark purple. Bold aromatics of wild berries, red and black currant, peppery spice, dried thyme and leather saddle, with subtle vanilla and licorice notes. Full and voluptuous on the palate, with supple dark fruit, red raspberry, pepper and violets dotted with vanilla toffee and cardamom notes. Acidity is prominant, but nicely compliments the full fruit, tannin and alcohol for a perfectly ageable wine. ONLY 44 cases made!

Le Chanceux 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon

Tasting Notes: The winery’s first release, the 2006 is quite a treat. With 12 years of age, including 18 months in French oak, this wine has aged so gracefully and is drinking beautifully right now. A nearly opaque deep red core that extends through the edges, with a balanced “symphony” or aromas – baked dark cherry pie, leather, forest floor, mulberries, black licorice and subtle cedar notes. Rich and silky, the palate is in excellent balance, with a hint of vanilla and mint leaf intermingling with dark fruit and earth notes. A delightful, long finish.

Audrey and Barry Sterling founded the iconic Iron Horse Vineyards in a not so iconic location at the time. In 1976 Green Valley was not only NOT an AVA, but a rural Sonoma location grape growers had not yet ventured. Now a prospering and highly sought after AVA, the team prides themselves on producing wines that are all about "place". Situated 13 miles from the Pacific with gentle, rolling hills, the winery offers spectacular view clear across Sonoma County to Mount St. Helena. Their wines have been served at high profile White House events including the Millennium New Year’s Eve 1999, the dinner honoring Pope John Paul on his 80th birthday and the annual LGBT event in June 2015.

Iron Horse Vineyards 2013 Gratitude Brut Rosé 
Green Valley, Russian River Valley, Sonoma County, CA
Grape(s): 68% Pinot Noir, 32% Chardonnay
Notes: A 400-case, limited production vintage rosé that expresses everything Iron Horse feels for the community. The second vintage produced, $5 from each bottle sold goes to The Redwood Empire Food Bank, providing critical food both in times of disaster and every day for those in need. A lovely pale pink salmon in color with persistent, delicate tiny bubbles. Intriguing aromas of wild raspberry, fresh strawberry toast and vanilla cream. Rich, yet refreshing on the palate, with flavors of berry fruit, orange blossom and a kiss of vanilla, with a softly lingering finish.

Iron Horse Vineyards 2010 Brut LD 
Green Valley, Russian River Valley, Sonoma County, CA
Grape(s): 50% Pinot Noir, 50% Chardonnay
Notes: This is Iron Horse's Tête de Cuvée, their top of the line. LD stands for Late Disgorged, which means aged longer, making it richer, creamier, more refined and elegant. This vintage is aged seven years en tirage, resulting in a delicate, persistent perlage (“collection of pearls”) of mesmerizing pinpoint bubbles. A pale yellow gold in color, with aromas reminiscent of Fall – apple orchard, orange peel and warm hints of brioche and baked pie crust. A palate of tangerine, apple pie, hints of cinnamon and hazelnut luxuriously coat the palate and lead to a long, delicious finish. Only 525 cases made.
