Co-CEO, President, Co-Founder
Martin Cody has extensive entrepreneurial experience founding three different companies dealing with retail wine, real estate holdings and land management. Along with his wife Denise, he co-owned a retail bricks and mortar retail wine shop (sold in 2013). The store grew double digits during the recession and quickly became a local landmark in a fiercely competitive area of Chicago. With a successful and acclaimed 30 year career in sales, he understood that customer service was a differentiator along with hand-picked selections of wine rarely seen in the marketplace.
Martin has extensive national wine industry contacts and leverages his experience and those relationships to accelerate Cellar Angels’ growth. In Martin's view, success in business requires endless persistence and always working harder "than the other guy". Success isn't handed to you, it has to be earned. He is passionate about wine and intent on introducing premium small wineries to wine enthusiasts. When not involved in wine or golf related activities you will find him asleep.
Co-CEO, Chief Operating Angel and Co-Founder
A 20 year career as a Surgical Nurse and Director of Nursing prepared Denise for her first position in the wine industry, a retail wine shop owner. The skillset of those two roles makes her a perfect fit as Chief Operating Angel for Cellar Angels. Specifically, the company benefits from her strengths including work flow efficiency, meticulous organizational talents and empowering leadership skills. Most recently Denise completed the Goldman Sachs 10K Small Businesses Program received the Corporate Woman of Achievement Award from the National Association of Women Business Owners.
Her passion for “the juice”, strong work ethic, meticulous attention to financial details and the instinct to do the right thing exemplifies the very DNA of Cellar Angels.
Outside of work, Denise enjoys the outdoors, travel and relieves stress by honing her culinary skills.
Investor, Marketing & Sales, Sommelier
Carrie fell in love with wine after her first exhilarating sip of Champagne at a wedding many years back. What started as casual tasting and self-education evolved into a true passion for wine and the desire to build a lifestyle around it. Involved with Cellar Angels since inception in 2010, she currently supports the marketing efforts, charity relations and winery partnerships. With The Court of Master Sommeliers Level 1 certification under her belt, Carrie plans to pursue future wine certifications. Experienced at event planning, wine buying and wine education, you will also find her leading consumer tasting events or participating in fundraising runs like Susan G. Komen’s Race for the Cure. Triathlon training, photography and planning vacations with her husband are just a few of her favorite things when she is not busy “changing the world one bottle of wine at a time”!
