Tasting Notes:

Zoetic Wines 2015 Hop Kiln Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley

A good friend to Cellar Angels and generous for allowing us a few cases of her rare wine, Kim Vance of Zoetic Wines has offered her 2015 Pinot Noir. It’s important to note the vineyard source for this fruit. The famed Hop Kiln Vineyard is an ideal growing region for Pinot Noir, ensconced in Russian River Valley literally steps from the rushing waters.

The initial introduction shows a lovely translucent ruby wine in the glass with enticing aromas of fresh cherry and raspberry, violets and cinnamon. Flavors reveal more intensity – Chambord, almond, thyme, orange peel and spice. The finish is pleasantly fruitful with a touch of forest floor.

Kim Vance

About the Winemaker:
After working in the financial industry for over 15 years Kim realized something was missing. She had traveled to California's wine country countless times and fell in love with the beautiful rolling vineyards, glorious wineries, and fantastic wines, as many people do. But during one trip in early 2008, a suggestion was made that she find a position on a harvest crew to really experience wine making.

About the Vineyard:
Additional Winemaker Notes:
  • Unfined and unfiltered
  • Aged in French oak for 11 months
  • Bottled unfined and unfiltered
Food Pairing Suggestions:
Incredibly food-friendly, this complex Pinot Noir will pair well with grilled or roasted pork, lamb, chicken and turkey. With the wine's fuller body, a filet will work well too. Meatier fish, lighter pasta dishes and vegetarian items are good matches. Cheeses such as aged Gouda, Gruyere, Cheddar and Parmesan are also excellent food partners. Dark chocolate or nut based desserts are a great way to cap off your great meal.
About the Winery
Zoetic Wines Kim has long been a wine lover and enthusiast. She has taken countless trips to wine country over the years, but it was one visit in particular that changed the course of her life. The financial sector was a great career for Kim. She did well and enjoyed her life in Houston, but once bitten by the winemaking bug, she and her husband packed their belongings and headed for Northern California. Following her passion, she settled on Russian River Valley as an artistic canvas and focused on learning the idiosyncrasies of her favorite finicky grape, Pinot Noir. Learn more
