Zoetic Wines Boutique Pinot Noir Edna Valley
Kim Vance
About the Winemaker:
Winemaker Kim Vance left the financial industry in Texas to pursue her passion for Pinot Noir in the Russian River Valley. Inspired by a few years of working harvest, Kim continued to study and immerse herself in various aspects of the wine industry. Taking a leap of faith, she and her husband David made the move from Texas to California so Kim could pursue her desire and passion to make wine. Now with their own label, Zoetic Wines makes very small production, highly rated bottlings from premium small vineyard plots within the Russian River Valley, and now expanding her portfolio with Edna Valley fruit.
About the Vineyard:

Edna Ranch consists of six distinct sections, with 60 soil types and myriad microclimates encapsulating a remarkable spectrum of terroirs. Remnants of volcanic eruptions, fueled by clashing continental plates, share the landscape with calcium-rich sediments from tiny shells deposited on an ancient sea bed and estuary. Degraded granite meets tufa precipitated in a vanished sea. Heavy clay fills the valley floor while sandstone and clay loam cover the hillsides. Limestone - the Holy Grail for Pinot Noir – blankets the slopes of a knoll.

Combining these challenging, calcium-rich soil conditions and ancient seabed with the valley’s warm days and cool nights, you possess the ingredients for timeless and profound wines of diverse and distinctive character.

The Edna Valley AVA is one of four AVA's (American Viticultural Area) of the San Luis Obispo County in California's Central Coast. Located in the south-western corner of the county, it is one of the oldest wine producing regions, dating back to 1800s. Its rich winemaking history allowed it to develop world class Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah, Grenache, Riesling and Viognier. The Edna Valley AVA was once covered by the Pacific Ocean, which now benefits from marine sediment and very fertile soil, further enriched by humus, loam and clay. The cooler climate and long growing season–one of the longest growing seasons in the state–offers ideal conditions for producing exceptionally balanced and complex Pinot Noir. The elevation ranges from 238 feet along the valley to double that closer to the base of the San Lucas Mountains, although the temperature stay moderate throughout, due to proximity to the ocean.

Additional Winemaker Notes:

Aged in one French oak barrel, one-year used, for 11 months

Bottled unfined and unfiltered in August 2017

Food Pairing Suggestions:
Pinot Noir tends to be quite a versatile wine for a range of food pairing ideas. Try this wine with roasted turkey, pork tenderloin, lamb or herbed chicken. This Pinot's fuller body will also work nicely with a lean steak. Meatier fish, rich pasta dishes and roasted root vegetables are good matches. Experiment with cheeses such as aged Gouda, Gruyere, Cheddar and Parmesan
About the Winery
Zoetic Wines Kim has long been a wine lover and enthusiast. She has taken countless trips to wine country over the years, but it was one visit in particular that changed the course of her life. The financial sector was a great career for Kim. She did well and enjoyed her life in Houston, but once bitten by the winemaking bug, she and her husband packed their belongings and headed for Northern California. Following her passion, she settled on Russian River Valley as an artistic canvas and focused on learning the idiosyncrasies of her favorite finicky grape, Pinot Noir. Learn more
