Doug Hackett, aka Dougy Fresh
About the Winemaker:
Doug’s passion for wine and life is infectious to all who cross his path and taste his wines. Doug is fueled with an endless supply of creative energy flowing from within and centered by his harmonious balance in everything that he undertakes. For Doug, winemaking is as much an art as it is a lifestyle.

Born in Montreal, Canada and raised by his grandmother in the Adirondack Mountains of New York, Doug ventured west at 18 for college. His journey took him from New Mexico to Montana and eventually to California where he pursued his talent for winemaking.

Doug founded and was the winemaker for Dogwood Cellars for twelve years before joining the Spicy Vines team. Doug is known for sourcing the greatest grapes from notable regions. His focus has always been on producing small lot artisan wines. He prides himself on shepherding the wines though the winemaking process, never controlling them, but always allowing them to develop into the best that they can be.

About the Vineyard:
This Rhone inspired California old vine field blend comes from Burnett Vineyards in the heart of the Dry Creek Valley in Sonoma County. Cool nights and warm days allow this dry farmed, 95 year old vineyard to crawl along at it's own pace, yielding complex fruit and dense flavors.
Additional Winemaker Notes:

Aged for 20 months in French oak barrels, 20% new.

About the Winery
Spicy Vines For Crystalyn Hoffman, Co-Founder and Managing Director or Spicy Vines, a serendipitous and fortuitous experience occurred during a trip to Germany. She was intrigued by a local tradition of sipping delicious, hot mulled wine with friends. Returning home, she wondered how such a wonderfully social custom had not translated to American culture, so she set out to make the introduction. Learn more
