About the Winemaker:
Hugo Maldonado enjoys working with the grapes of Parr Vineyard in the American Viticultural Area of Knights Valley. The location, with its ideal soils and climate, makes for a perfect area to grow Chardonnay. Nestled in the remote Sonoma mountains and influenced by Mt. St. Helena, the days are warm and the nights are cool.

About the Vineyard:
Grapes sourced from Parr Vineyard in Knights Valley, Sonoma County. The Vineyard is a very cool and foggy site that ripens the grapes slowly with racy acidity. The soil is comprised of sandy loam – perfect for Chardonnay.
Additional Winemaker Notes:

Chardonnay grapes are pressed using one of our small bladder presses and the juice sent to barrel for 100% barrel fermentation. Yeasts indigenous to the vineyard and winery perform the fermentation; nothing is added to the grapes or juice prior to or during fermentation. The use of French oak creates the subtle oak flavor, spice driven flavors that enhance our award winning single vineyard chardonnays . The idea is to open and disturb the barrels as little as possible, and to leave the environment inside the barrel integral and self-regulating. This regime exposes the wine to small amounts of oxygen when it is at its youngest and most vigorous stage; this is a kind of inoculation against later oxidation.

Strong and will age slowly and well. The long, undisturbed period in barrel allows a graceful and extended contact with the lees and allows anything clouding the wine to settle out so thoroughly that filtration becomes unnecessary.

Infied, 100% barrel fermented in French Oak using native yeasts. Aged sur lees for 20 months.

This rich and full bodied Chardonnay will pair well with a wide variety of rich dishes that include crab, lobster, meaty fish, pork, veal, poultry, and vegetables. The key is to mirror the body of the wine to the food, so prepare dishes with sauces to create a full flavor. Use cream sauces, mushroom sauces and even pair with rich soups. Try this wine with the following cheeses and nuts: asiago, havarti, mozzarella and almonds.
About the Winery
Maldonado Vineyards Nearly fifty years ago, Lupe Maldonado was living in a small farming community in Michoacán, Mexico. After moving to California, Lupe began working in the vineyards of Napa Valley. He made a name for himself in the valley as a hard, dedicated worker and was invited to join the team at a new winery, Newton Vineyard. Learn more
