Winemaker Steve Law MacLaren Wines
Steve Law
About the Winemaker:
After moving from his native Scotland to work in the tech industry in France, Steve Law and his friends would regularly enjoy weekends immersed in French culture and the country’s wine regions. Here he discovered his palate and passion for wine, notably the Sauvignon Blanc from Loire Valley, Pinot Noir from Burgundy, Rosé from Provence, and Viognier from Condrieu. But it was in Northern Rhone that he discovered Syrah... and his world changed. His tech career eventually led him to Northern California, where he later took a friend’s advice and decided to dive straight into his obvious passion for wine. Steve worked his first harvest in 2006, produced his first vintage of Syrah under his own label in 2007, and the rest is history!
Rogers Vineyard, Dry Creek Valley
About the Vineyard:
Rogers Vineyard is nestled in the cooler, southern region of Dry Creek Valley, benefiting from the morning fog that comes off the Russian River. The vineyard was planted in 1998 to clone 1, with some Musqué vines interspersed.
Additional Winemaker Notes:
The vineyard was harvested on a foggy morning in early September. The fruit was immediately pressed to tank at the winery before transferring to neutral oak barrels where the primary fermentation took place. The relatively cool fermentation took 17 days before being aged in neutral French oak barrel for 6 months; lees were stirred regularly to flesh out the mid palate. The wine was filtered before bottling.
