About the Winemaker:
As grape growers and winemakers, Steve and Brian farm in a sustainable and earth friendly manner. Their grapes are sourced from their own vineyards and other select vineyard sites owned by growers with a similar philosophy who have likewise embraced environmental practices in vineyard management.
Crux specializes in Rhone varietals grown in the Russian River American Viticulture Area (AVA). In a place famous for cool weather varietals, they seek out the relatively warmer sites to grow Grenache Blanc, Viognier, Grenache, Syrah, Mourvédre, Zinfandel, and Petite Sirah. This area, unofficially known as the Middle Reach of the Russian River, is a transitional area, with a wide variety of grapes planted and bordering on several other AVAs (Dry Creek Valley, Alexander Valley and Chalk Hill). This confluence is the basis for the Crux name, their primary vineyard sources and their homes.

Additional Winemaker Notes:

Crux Winery GSM blend was inspired by the wines of the southern Rhone Valley of France. The aromatics of this Grenache dominated blend are reinforced with Syrah and Mourvédre for power and complexity. The dry season of 2016 produced a big and bold version of the wine with tannins for extended aging.

93 Points, Gold Medal, Exceptional, Cellar Selection - Tastings.com

‘Dusty deep purple color. Aromas of ripe strawberry, ripe tomato, basil, and kid leather with a satiny, vibrant, dry-yet-fruity medium body and a smooth, complex, medium-long plum tart with balsamic reduction, bay leaf, chocolate mousse, and coffee finish with moderate oak flavor. A mature wine that offers distinctive alluring aromas and highly pairable flavors.’

Food Pairing Suggestions:
While this wine will easily pair with a broad range of food choices, the Crux GSM Blend paired with duck confit is one the winery's favorite and highly recommended pairings. Experiment with braised meats like pork and lamb and rich stews or lentil and bean-based dishes complimented by roasted and caramelized root vegetables like beets, carrots and onions. Simply delicious!
