Tasting Notes:

While Americans adore their California red wines, they have a secret love affair with Bordeaux, France. Home to 5 famous grape varietals, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Petite Verdot, Bordeaux has made red blends famous, some fetching thousands of dollars. Viszlay Vineyards has produced a wine with all 5 Bordeaux varietals, all from Russian River Valley and all estate grown. The result is pure balance and elegance. It is no wonder this is their flagship wine.

A beautiful vibrant red in color, the nose produces excitement like unwrapping multiple gifts at Christmas. First red and black fruits, then cedar and tobacco, followed by soft smoke and enticing earthiness. The palate is intense, balanced and full, present in every part of the mouth. The flavors are complex and fruit forward with cherry, boysenberry and currants leading the way. Notes of vanilla and cinnamon transition into full tannins and a long persistent, enjoyable finish.

Food Pairing Suggestions:
Bordeaux is famous for food and wine pairing, and although this Bordeaux style wine is produced in California, pairing with a good hearty meal is just what is called for. Pair with beef, especially grilled, roasted or stewed, or braised dishes like lamb or venison. Game meats all pair wonderfully with this wine as do dishes with eggplant, mushrooms or pungent herbs. Also pair hard aromatic cheeses like Roquefort, Blue and Camembert varietals.
About the Winery
Viszlay Vineyards Just a few years ago the Viszlay family fulfilled their dream of owning a winery. John Viszlay uprooted his life and relocated to Russian River Valley where Viszlay Vineyards was born. A stunningly beautiful and thriving 10 acre vineyard, it is as diverse as it is picturesque, with 12 varietals grown on their property including Prosecco. Learn more
