Viszlay Vineyards 2011 Malbec Black Label Winemaker's Reserve
Viszlay Vineyards
Region: Russian River Valley, Sonoma County CA

The 2011 Malbec is the first “Black Label” wine produced by Viszlay Vineyards. While tasting through each Bordeaux varietal for consideration in their “Five Vines” blend, the team was blown away by the quality of the Malbec – and voilà – the “Winemaker’s Reserve” came to life!
While the popularity of this particular varietal can be attributed to South American producers, the quality of California Malbec, and more specifically the Russian River Valley, is quite exceptional. An opaque core of cranberry red with translucent garnet red edges, this shimmering 100% Malbec shows enticing, soft aromas of fresh fruit – blueberry, red cherry and blackberry – layered with cinnamon spice, dark brown sugar and hints of newly toasted oak. Made in the cooler 2001 vintage, the medium-bodied palate shows plenty of spicy, fresh fruit, silky soft, fine tannins and a mouthwatering acidity. Hard to put this one down!
