Tasting Notes:
This Chardonnay, which was fermented entirely in stainless steel, has been lauded by Steve Heimoff of The Wine Enthusiast as “easily Silverado’s best Chardonnay in years”. It also received 90 points by WE and a gold medal in the San Francisco Chronicle 2012 Wine Competition. Pale straw in color, the 2009 Carneros Chardonnay is summertime in a glass. A lighter, more crisp style of Chardonnay, this wine is silky on the palate with aromas and flavors of ripe apples, pears and lemon zest with hints of flint and a subtle note of white flowers. A crisp, moderate finish leaves the drinker contemplating the excellent balance and perfect fusion of flavors. This is an absolutely fantastic summer wine from an excellent winemaker that should not be missed by any wine lover.

Jon Emmerich

About the Winemaker:
Jon is an important part of both Silverado Vineyards and several boards within Napa Valley, including the Trellis Alliance, an advisory board to the famed University of California, Davis. However it was merely on a whim that he enrolled in the Fermentation Science program at UC Davis as a freshman in college. During his time in college he was exposed to the world of wine and immersed himself in it. He made wine in his dorm room with a friend and at that point saw the potential in himself to make extraordinary wines. He furthered his education during an internship in France, studying traditional winemaking techniques. Since then he has worked in various roles in prestigious vineyards such as Stags Leap Wine Cellars, Conn Creek Winery and Sebastiani before joining the Silverado team in 1990.
About the Vineyard:
Chardonnay from the Vineburg Vineyard in the Carneros region receives cool breezes coming from the San Pablo Bay. The grapes are planted in deep gravelly loam that once supported an apple orchard. The vines are spaced very close, 1,210 vines per acre, to achieve the low yield per vine which delivers intense flavors. For complexity, there are five clones (types of Chardonnay) planted. The resulting wine has aromas of lemony citrus and honeysuckle with flinty, mineral notes, a silky texture and a refreshing finish.

Food Pairing Suggestions:
This light, crisp style of Chardonnay pairs beautifully with a wide range of seafood and shellfish such as shrimp, scallops, tilapia, salmon and halibut. Salads are a great match and also try it with young cheeses such as Chevre, Feta and Ricotta.
About the Winery
Silverado Vineyards Diane and Ron Miller started their journey in the 1970’s with the purchase of their first vineyards. “It was beautiful land, and it was land that was working,” says Diane Miller. The Millers sold their grapes to some of Napa’s best vintners, who made award winning wines from them year after year. Encouraged by the success of their grapes, Diane and Ron established Silverado Vineyards in 1981 with the goal of making the best wines the estate could produce and offering it at a fair price.
