Tasting Notes:
The philosophy behind Senders Wines is to produce flavorful, balanced wines that are delicious upon release, pair well and age gracefully. The 2014 Pinot Noir from ‘Mahoney Ranch' Vineyard shows off a transparent, medium garnet color, with a delicate nose of red and black cherry, cranberry, leather, hazelnut and pomegranate fruit. Subtle notes of toasted oak, tea, bakeshop spice and dried flower. Balanced fruit notes and a touch of spice are found on the round and silky palate, with a perfect dusting of soft tannins and a pleasing, soft acidity.

Dr. Craig Senders
About the Winemaker:
A pediatric surgeon and winemaker, Craig Senders had his first impressionable wine experience 40 years ago during a river rafting trip packed with wines from Napa Valley. He began making wine shortly after, while advancing his medical career and earning critical acclaim and numerous accolades for his homemade wines. He found a way to bring his passion as a medical humanitarian and artisanal winemaker together, and now donates all profits from his wines to support surgical outreach.
'Mahoney Ranch' Vineyard
About the Vineyard:
The Mahoney Ranch Vineyard is located behind the Mahoney Family home in the Carneros AVA of southern Napa Valley. Founders Francis & Kathy Mahoney purchased these 45 acres of vineyard in 1986 specifically to focus on an array of Pinot Noir clones and 2 clones of Chardonnay. Their ridgeline, hillside vines are planted east to west, with exposure to plenty of sunshine and cooler temperatures to regulate ripening. The connection between the soils, clones, and geography provide consistent, high-quality fruit.
Additional Winemaker Notes:
  • Barrel-fermented, followed by barrel-aging for 16 months
  • All profits are donated to support cleft lip and palate surgical outreaches around the world
Food Pairing Suggestions:
This cool climate Pinot Noir will pair well with a range of poultry dishes like roast duck or turkey. Experiment also with seafood preparations like seared salmon or tuna. Pasta dishes, vegetarian items and creamy cheeses are also perfect matches. Try sauces or sides with a cherry or fig component to compliment the fruitiness of the wine.
