Tasting Notes:

Maze Wines 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon, Stagecoach Vineyard, Napa Valley

As the story goes, it takes a lot of beer to make wine. Father-son team, Gerry and Paul McSharry decided to make world-class Napa Valley wines from a bar stool in an Ireland pub. And we’re grateful! To make the finest wines, you have to source great fruit. This Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the legendary Stagecoach Vineyard in Napa Valley.

Dark ruby in the glass it is ripe and juicy on the nose. Blueberry, Creme de Cassis, mocha, vanilla and caramel drift from the glass. Fruit flavors abound with blackberry and other black fruits prominent. This wine is lean and hearty, revealing notes of tart cherry and herbal tea. There is a notably pleasant medium to long finish.

About the Vineyard:
The Stagecoach Vineyard is one of the most iconic and important in all of Napa Valley. It recently changed hands, purchased in April 2017 by E. & J. Gallo Winery for $180 million. More than 90 top wineries including Chateau Montelena, Plumpjack and Quintessa have for decades relied on the prized fruit from Stagecoach for their Cabernet Sauvignon and other wines, but that may soon end, with Gallo’s potential decision not to renew purchasing contracts.

Food Pairing Suggestions:
This rich, full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon is meant for food pairings that match its body and aromatic characteristics. With its depth of acid and tannins, it will pair well with meats like beef steaks, beef and pork roasts, venison, lamb and hamburgers. Experiment with mushroom dishes and meals seasoned with herbs and pepper. Hard cheeses are a nice compliment as well.
