Tasting Notes:

This is a Merlot even the Cab lovers will love!  It is labeled "Reserve" for three distinct reasons:

1) It is a single vineyard designate wine
2) This unique Napa Valley terroir offers Bordeaux-like conditions, ideal for the Merlot varietal
3) The 32 years old vines produce fruit with complexity and depth

A glass of this gorgeous, single vineyard, dark ruby red wine greets you with aromas of fully ripened red berry tones intermingled with an appealing ray of lightly toasted oak, slight spice and vanilla. The palate has a full bodied, modest attack from front to finish with a well-rounded texture on the midpalate and a long, soft finale that expresses a hint of tannin.

It is unfortunate that Merlot fell out of favor due to the cult classic movie, Sideways. On the rise once again, Merlot makes some of the most expensive and beautiful wines in the world. It also pairs quite easily with food. Enjoy with pork, chicken, lamb and lightly spiced red meat. Pair with hearty vegetarian dishes, pasta and delicately spiced rice dishes. Avoid very spicy food, fish and leafy green vegetables with this one. Good cheese pairings include medium hard cheeses like cheddar and Gouda. Also, serve with dark chocolate or berry desserts.
