Angel Favorite #8 Has Arrived!
Cellar Angels is showcasing nine wine favorites between 1/1 and 3/26. These are wines that received member praises, high scores and impressive sales last year. If you didn't have the chance to experience these wines the first time, now is your chance. We are gifting a $100 eGift Card with your cumulative $500 purchase of any featured “Angel Favorites”!
With a case (12 bottle) purchase of the 2011 Mario Bazán Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon, the winery will substitute the 12th bottle with their extremely limited production 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon, a special single vineyard wine typically reserved only for their wine club members.
This wine is a departure from the bold, fruit-driven, highly concentrated Cabernets for which the Napa Valley is known. A deep, translucent brick red in color, its nose shows a depth of aromatics, led by wild berries, ripe plum, black cherry, bell pepper and mineral notes. As it opens, it teases with subtle layers of bakeshop spices like clove and cinnamon and a hint of dried herbs and dark flower. The palate offers gripping tannins, a mouthwatering acidity and a long, lingering finish which softened pleasantly during a tasting the following day.
Not only is it fantastic in the glass, the label tells a great story. Indicative of the wine’s elegance and a reflection of Mario’s remarkable background, it is inspired by two of the most common elements – birds and flowers – seen in the traditional costume worn by the Oaxacan women. His life prior to arriving in the Napa Valley is reflected in the watermark and the natural color palate of the label, typical of the white plastered walls and vibrant terracotta tile roofs from adobe houses in his hometown of Oaxaca.
