The talented Lupe Maldonado has tended vineyards for over 45 years. After three decades of invaluable viticulture wisdom, he planted his own 10-acre property, the Los Olivos Vineyard in Napa Valley's Jameson Canyon, which is now carefully maintained by three generations of Maldonados. This cool climate vineyard produces superior Chardonnay fruit that I immediately fell in love with when I tasted this wine – I think you will too!
A crystal clear, shimmering pale yellow gold in color, this Chardonnay is quite glamorous in the glass. Full, enticing aromatics of fresh stone fruits – spiced golden apple and crisp pear – jump from the glass, with complimenting notes of orange gelato, vanilla nutmeg and a subtle salted caramel (or “dulce de leche” as described by the winemaker notes). The wine is so well balanced, with each sip more enjoyable than the next. The palate has an elegant, creamy texture, complimented by a perfectly integrated, refreshing acidity. The lingering finish seems to go on forever. Don’t miss this uber small production, as just under 1,200 cases were made.
