Tasting Notes:

Up high, above the fog, tucked away near the top of Sonoma Mountain is a hidden gem of a vineyard growing iconic Cabernet Sauvignon. The lineage of this vineyard dates back over 100 years. A remarkable detail to note as you taste this wine is that it was made of 100% free run juice, a winemaking approach rarely used for red wines, but one that produces balanced and elegant Cabernet Sauvignon.

“Beautifully dense deep purple color, and a classic cassis nose with notes of black pepper, cherry liqueur, rose petal and vanilla make for a very refined and seductive first impression. On the palate the flavor is mouth filling but nuanced, with a pleasant astringency. The tannins are fine and the finish is quite refreshing, yet long and multi-layered, beginning with black currant and ending with red cherry and pepper. It is already destined to be one of the better wines from this historic vineyard."

Accolades:
The longevity of Laurel Glen Vineyard Cabernet was demonstrated at a tasting in February 2011 comprising vintages between 1981 and 2007. Three vintages from the 1980's were voted among the top ten by the 7 prominent sommeliers and 3 experienced wine writers present. Master Sommelier Larry Stone wrote, "from the very beginning to the present day, all the wines show complexity, longevity and classical proportions."

General Food Pairing Suggestions:
Made of rich mountain fruit produced solely with free run juice, the wine shows great sweet fruit characters. A Cabernet Sauvignon like that deserves big, bold foods to enhance the experience. Enjoy with fattier cuts of meat; lamb, beef, pork, sausage, grilled meats, stews, and game. Dishes with black olives, black pepper, pungent herbs, and mushrooms will also compliment nicely. Strong sharp cheeses and salami make a perfect accompaniment as well. Dishes with concentrated sauces pair very well. Try with dark chocolate for a decadent dessert.
About the Winery
Laurel Glen Vineyard The Laurel Glen Vineyard is steeped in history, and even a little prestige, with records documenting a vineyard first planted in the 1880's. Replanted in 1968 to Cabernet Sauvignon vines, this is when the ideally located vineyard received its name, it is believed, after the towering Laurel trees that surround the property. Learn more
