Tasting Notes:

Itemizing all of the special features of this wine is a long list, but at the top is 1) location and 2) winemaker. Each week there is a skirmish among our team over who gets to write tasting notes. With this wine, we all agreed to step aside and let the winemaker, a Napa Valley icon, present this wine.

Intense, ripe, dark red cherries and berries joined by black olive, bay leaf, vanilla bean, dry-aged beef and cedar. A healthy acidity, expected of Mt Veeder, brightens the wine like an 80 watt lightbulb. Slightly surprising is how supple and delicious the Communication Block Cabernet is today. Full-flavored, distinctive and perfectly proportioned.

About the Winemaker:
Acclaimed Winemaker Aaron Pott began his winemaking journey at Newton Vineyard in 1990. Aaron traveled the world to deepen his knowledge of winemaking, returning to California in 1998 to bring his winemaking experience home. He soaked in every morsel of information along the way from winemaking greats including John Kongsgaard, French consulting-winemaker Michel Rolland and Jean-Louis Mandreau, winemaker at Chateau Latour. Aaron created a reputation for himself in Napa Valley as he worked his magic at some famous wineries including Beringer, St. Clement and Quintessa. Now one of the most desired winemakers in the valley, Aaron Pott launched a winemaking consulting company, working with exclusive boutique wineries including Bello Family Vineyards, Blackbird, Fisher Vineyards, Jericho Canyon, Perliss, V22, Quixote, Seven Stones and St. Helena Estate.
Vineyard:
Lampyridae Vineyards
About the Vineyard:
Lampyridae Vineyards is the highest vineyard on Mt. Veeder, resting at 2,500 feet above the Napa Valley floor. High above the fog layer, the cooler days and warmer nights yield ideal ripening conditions for mountain Cabernet. The combination of elevation and volcanic ash soils results in low yields and produces wines of incredible complexity. The Communication Block of the vineyard is a favorite of the winery, selected specifically for a project close to their hearts: all profits from the sale of Communication Block wines are donated to Napa Valley Kids Connect, a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of children with motor and communication difficulties.
Additional Winemaker Notes:
  • 18 months in 100% French oak barrels
  • Fruit sourced from single "Communication Block" within the Lampyridae Vineyard
  • Highest vineyard on Mt. Veeder; 2,500 feet above the Napa Valley floor
  • Winery donates all profits from the sale of this wine to Napa Valley Kids Connect
