Tasting Notes:

A fantastic Cabernet Sauvignon from one of Napa’s top-notch vintages, this beautiful wine is drinking well now but is definitely worth a place in your cellar over the next few years. Its deep, opaque garnet color shimmers in the glass, with a rich, full body that coats the sides of the glass. Unfined and unfiltered as to not strip the true aromas and flavors from the wine (and to insure the true Howell Mountain terroir comes through) you may notice a subtle haziness – a good thing! On the nose, a depth of aromas; wild, spicy blackberry jump from the glass, followed by black licorice, dried herbs, blackberry liqueur and a subtle hint of vanilla and tobacco. This wine makes a statement on the palate – rich, full and lingering, with smooth, yet attention-grabbing tannins that carry through on the long, delicious finish.

Additional Winemaker Notes:
  • One of the best vintages in recent history
  • Minimal use of only fine French oak barrels is used in the winemaking process only to support the wine and not to distract from the unique Howell Mountain characteristics.
  • Use Old World winemaking methods - native yeast, natural secondary fermentation, and minimal racking with no fining or filtering to help insure that the true Howell Mountain terroir is expressed in every glass.

Food Pairing Suggestions:
Mountain fruit is quite unique, especially from the Howell Mountain AVA. Pair with decadent meat dishes like balsamic marinated rib eye steak, slow cooked braised short ribs or Châteaubriand. On the lighter side, but still hearty enough to stand up to such impressive Cabernet flavors, complement the wine with truffle risotto with portobello mushrooms, charred gruyere bison burger, or wild mushroom stroganoff.
