Goldschmidt Yoeman Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a small mountain vineyard just east of the town of Geyserville. The vineyard slopes to the southeast and is comprised of well-draining glacial loam. Soft morning sun promotes slower grape maturation and longer “hang times” in this secluded micro-climate.
Planted in 1988, it is made up of two very old field selections which allow for more diversity in the clusters. Upon achieving full ripeness, they vary in size, acidity, and flavor profile. One show more red fruit and the other more black fruit characteristics. Such plant diversity grants more complexity within the site. Yoeman is a low input vineyard with very low yields and is typically picked 203 weeks later than the Oakville vineyards. Rarely do vineyard conditions afford a winemaker the opportunity to make a wine such as this.
Similar to 2014 & 2015, the 2016 is another fine vintage in a string of great vintages dating back to 2010. The 2016 vintage was again early with yields coming slightly lower than normal but bigger than 2014 and 2015. The season was even and received more water thanks to a great winter of rain in 2015. The cool nights really put this exceptional vintage over the top.

Pair this Cabernet Sauvignon with a hearty meal, like an aged-gouda cheeseburger topped with crispy fried onions, medium-rare sirloin steak, portabello or porcini mushroom dishes and hard cheeses, such as aged cheddar or gouda.
