Goldschmidt Vineyards 2015 "Forefathers" Cabernet Sauvignon
Goldschmidt Vineyards
Region: Sonoma County CA

One vineyard. One varietal. One appellation. Winemaker Nick Goldschmidt calls this wine “Forefathers” to acknowledge Alexander Valley as the “forefather” appellation for the Cabernet varietal in Sonoma County. When the right grape is grown in the perfect place, it eliminates the need to blend with other grapes. The complexity you’ll experience in the wine comes from the unique and well-suited soil and the microclimate. This 100% Cabernet shows off an opaque, dark garnet, with layered aromatics of blackberry, dark plum and black cherry. As the wine opens, secondary aromas of dried dark flowers, dark chocolate, incense and subtle tobacco emerge. Zesty acidity and full, gripping tannins present early, a good indication of the wine’s aging potential (i.e. this is one for the cellar!). Decant or aerate in the glass for an hour or so, where rich blackberry fruit and notes of licorice, vanilla and wood emerge and lead to a long, full finish.
