Angel Favorite:

Cellar Angels is pleased to feature this fabulous and rare select single vineyard Zinfandel once again from Gauthier Select Vineyards. Stock your collection with this easy drinking, bbq friendly, crowd-pleasing Angel Favorite.

Tasting Notes:

Big, jammy Zinfandels are slowly being replaced by more elegant, sophisticated and age-worthy alternatives. It takes more than just winemaking techniques to pull this off. Finding just the right vines in just the right location is a labor of love. Gauthier Select Vineyards seeks out such ideal sites and produces wines with character, balanced acidity and complexity that are made to hold up over time.

Visually appealing, this Zinfandel is a pretty purple in color with blue hues. Aromas of blackberry pie, anise and spice emanate from the glass. The palate boasts flavors of cassis, blackberry, vanilla, cloves and pepper. Savor the fruity yet dusty balanced finish.

About the Winemaker:
Los Chamizal Vineyard
About the Vineyard:
These vineyards are situated in the mountains of southern Sonoma Valley, one mile north of Sonoma. The beautiful terraced vines are carved into steeply sloping hillsides reaching 800 ft. in elevation. The soils range from well drained sandy clay loams at the lower elevations to thin fractured basalt soils at the highest elevations. The vineyard has a modestly warm climate through the day, while the vines enjoy cooler evening air which preserves higher acidity in the grapes. Los Chamizal is a sustainable vineyard, with permanent cover crops, compost and organic fertilizers used to nurture the soil.

Food Pairing Suggestions:
This Zinfandel is a food lover’s wine! With high acidity and medium tannins, it can stand up to meat dishes and cut through fat for a perfect balance of flavors. It pairs beautifully with BBQ pork ribs, roast leg of lamb, steak, Italian sausage, venison and brisket. Also try hearty vegetarian dishes, tomato based pasta dishes such as lasagna or spaghetti, beef stew or chili. Pair with cheeses such as Parmesan, aged Cheddar or Gouda, Asiago or Pepper Jack.
About the Winery
Gauthier Select Vineyards With generations of French winemakers in the Gauthier family tree and a mentorship by wine country icons like Rodney Strong, you'd expect a haughty man in Greg Gauthier. Not so. A modest man, gracious and giving as he is hard working, Greg Gauthier has a passion for diamonds in the rough. Believing certain spots grow the best grapes for each varietal, he seeks out perfect grape growing vineyard locations for his wine selections, sometimes "selecting" just a row or two in a particular location of a vineyard.
