Tasting Notes:
This most recent release from Fogline Vineyards is an entrancing deep ruby at the core with a watery pale pink rim. The nose has an amazing depth and complexity and will continue to evolve beautifully with time in the bottle. It delights with aromas of red and black cherries, hints of forest floor and light violet notes. After some time in the glass aromas of pine needles, vanilla and mocha emerge from behind the fruit. On the palate this is a more masculine style of Pinot with prominent tannin and acid, which means while it is certainly enjoyable now, it will age gracefully for years to come. Flavors of dark fruit, damp earthiness, salinity and zippy acid keep the palate tingling. This is an extraordinary Pinot that is unexpected and intriguing in the best possible way.

About the Vineyard:

Located at approximately 1300 feet above sea level, Sun Chase Vineyard is 40 acres planted with two Pinot Noir Clones, Dijon 667 and 777. The vineyard sits atop the Sonoma Mountain in the Petaluma Gap region. Known for the wind and fog that blows into the gap and creates ideal conditions for farming Pinot Noir grapes, the resulting fruit is focused and perfectly balanced. The unique expression of terroir in this Pinot comes partially from the pine tree grove located nearby. The team at Fogline believes it is the oils from these pine trees that give the wine hints of pine needle and forest floor. The 2011 vintage was an ideal long, cool growing season that gives the wine its excellent structure, balance and robust notes of bright red fruit and earth. We here at Cellar Angels will be sure to keep an eye on future vintages to see what gems come from this noteworthy vineyard.

Food Pairing Suggestions:
This elegant wine pairs well pork, lamb and poultry, especially chicken or turkey. Lighter pasta dishes and vegetarian items are also perfect matches. Cheeses such as Edam, Gouda, Gruyere, light Cheddars and Chevre are excellent pairings as well.
About the Winery
Fogline Vineyards Fogline Vineyards is located on the Northern ridge of Sonoma Mountain in the Petaluma Gap region at the edge of the Sonoma Coast Appellation, high above the Pacific Ocean. The winery’s goal is to make wines from fruit grown above the fog line. Vines at that elevation enjoy moderately hot days above the cool fog that blankets the valley below. Learn more
