Tasting Notes:

This elegant Pinot Noir brings to mind the famous quote by Clifton Fadiman, “wine is poetry in a bottle.” Not only is this wine unique because of the high altitude of the vineyards at an elevation of 2500 feet, but because of its incredibly silky expression of fruit. Due to the steep terrain of this AVA (American Viticulture Area), all the grapes are hand-harvested, ensuring the greatest care from the very beginning of the wine’s creation.

A light brick red in color with deeper opacity towards the center, this Pinot has aromas and flavors of bright red fruit such as raspberry and strawberry. This is balanced by notes of cola, clove, vanilla, violets and clarified by a hint of minerality. Moderate in body and tannin with a long, silky finish that lingers on the palate, this memorable wine leaves a lasting impression not soon to be forgotten.

Winemaker:
Scott Chafen
About the Winemaker:
Winemaker Scott Chafen began in the wine business at a young age driving his father’s tractor in the family vineyards. This led to a position as a cellar rat, which is where his passion for wine bloomed. After receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy with a double minor in Comparative Literature and Studio Art, Scott left for Europe. For one year he worked in France before returning to his roots in California. With his wanderlust somewhat satiated, Scott was ready to take the reigns when Dutch Henry opened in 1992. In this family run winery Scott has held a wide variety of positions that range from delivery man to winemaker. However, he prefers the title wine “grower” instead of wine “maker” as this reflects his philosophy that great wines are made in the vineyard, not in the cellar.
