Tasting Notes:

Donelan Family Wines 2015 Nancie Chardonnay, Sonoma County

The 93+pt-rated Nancie is a classic approach to Chardonnay, sourced from a quartet of cool, Sonoma County vineyards that promote great site expression and freshness. A shimmery, pale yellow in the glass, this complex Chardonnay offers enticing layers of aromatics – fresh pear, tropical fruits, candied apricot, wet stone minerality and a touch of smoke. Rich flavors of pineapple, pear and vanilla toasted oak are balanced by the wine’s acidity, and follow through on the silky mid-palate to a long, palate-coating finish.

About the Vineyard:
The grapes used to produce this cuvée of Chardonnay come from a variety of vineyard sources, resulting in a multi-layered wine. To create a complex Chardonnay, the winery sought out diferent AVAs to produce a wine that could never exist from a single site. The result is a Chardonnay with great fruit concentration and minerality from an old vineyard in the Russian River, stone fruit and elegance from a vineyard in the Sonoma Coast, crème-brulée and chalkiness from the Bennett Valley and a touch of exotic fruit from Donelan's dry-farmed, estate Chardonnay vineyard.
Additional Winemaker Notes:
Aged in neutral oak and 20% new oak, stainless-steel, & concrete

Food Pairing Suggestions:
The winery highly recommends pairing this wine with seared scallops and lobster mac-and-cheese! A rule of thumb is to match the body of the wine to the food, so prepare dishes with sauces to create a full flavor. Experiment with light cream sauces and mushroom sauces paired with a range of crab, lobster, meaty fish, pork, veal, poultry, and vegetables.
About the Winery
Donelan Family Wines The foundation of the winery began with the family’s estate vineyard, Obsidian. Named after the black volcanic glass in the bedrock beneath the vines, it is one of the most unique in California. It is here the family believes Syrah trumps Cabernet, with its depth of aromas and flavors produced in this unique terroir. In addition to the Rhône varietals Grenache and Mourvedre, they have rounded out the portfolio with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, two more of Sonoma’s famed varieties. Learn more
