Clif Family Winery 2012 Petite Sirah
Clif Family Winery
Region: Napa Valley, CA

Historical records tell us a French botanist planted Syrah in his backyard in the 1860's. It is believed the plant cross-pollinated with Peloursin flowers nearby and Petite Sirah was born. While the bold wine fell out of favor in France and is virtually nonexistent there, it is quite popular among Americans, especially those who fancy Cabernet Sauvignon.
Big. Bold. Inky. Petite Sirah is often described this way, and if you lean towards the bigger reds this wine does not disappoint. Deep, concentrated reddish-purple in color, you can smell it across the room as it rests in the glass. The overt bouquet of black fruits, leather, earth and coffee grounds flows from the glass. The intense palate is large and commanding as flavors of bramble, black currant, plum, black tea, leather and notes of spice fill the mouth. It has medium plus tannins which are balanced by the acid and an hour of decanting. Enjoy the super long finish as you ponder another journey through this glass.
