Tasting Notes:
I find it interesting that the look of a wine usually seems to signal what the flavor profile will be - especially Chardonnay. This Laguna Road Vineyard 2012 is a bright shimmering gold with what I’d describe as reflective gold foil edges; very bright and lively…radiant and swirling. The nose is subtle but lively with a lemony, tangerine tinged freshness. Cool melon, and a hint of citrus blossom segue into rounder aromas of apricot and vanilla custard. The feel in the mouth is energetic. There is a great interplay between the cool, full, rich voluminous body of the wine and the vibrant, stimulating oak – acidity balance. Tangy Meyer lemon and tangerine echo this interplay with subtle melon and creamy toasted oak.  Lemony citrus holds the tangy note while a hint of minerality sneaks in to add complexity. The finish is fresh and delicious with lingering citrus and toasted crème brulee that pretty much sums up the complex interplay between tangy citrus and full richness that the wine’s complex elements have just shown us. I love how this wine is light on its feet in flavor yet full and rich in depth and feel. This wine evokes a memory for me of a cookie I used to have back in the 70’s called Lemon Coolers. It’s the same flavor interplay that was quite unique.

Food Pairing Suggestions:
A luscious Chardonnay with crisp acidity makes for a fun wine to pair with food. Enjoy with chicken, turkey or sausage in a mild sauce. Also pairs well with creamy soups, meaty fish like salmon and sea bass, crab, lobster, scallops, cheese soufflé dishes, cream based pasta dishes and Caesar salad. Cheese pairings suggestions include triple cream cheese, Gouda, and aged Cheddar.
