Region: Stagecoach Vineyard, Atlas Peak AVA, Napa Valley, CA
Watch our interview with Chad Angelo of Angelo Cellars on the SIP Virtual Wine Tasting series!
As the saying goes, location, location, location! Stagecoach Vineyard, perhaps one of the most sought after vineyards in Napa Valley, is the fruit source for this little hidden gem we recently found. If you are unaware of just how much in demand Stagecoach is, it was recently purchased by Gallo for $180M. The unfortunate outcome of the sale is that the fabulous small lot wines previously hand-crafted from this vineyard by producers like Blackbird, Pahlmeyer, Aaron Pott's private label and of course, Angelo Cellars, will go away once their contracts expire. So we say, be in the moment and enjoy it while you can.
From the moment you lay eyes on this beauty, you know it's special, intense in color with ruby edges and a penetrating opaque almost black center. The nose is loaded with random dark fruit aromas along with sweet tobacco leaf, a dustiness, and dried herbs. Prepare your palate for a powerhouse of a wine with healthy rich tannins that is perfectly balanced at 14.4% alcohol. The finish does not disappoint and reveals a surprising level of acidity to make it an ideal pairing for hearty beef dishes.
