Tasting Notes:
Everything Mario Andretti touches turns to gold and this fine wine is no exception. This Sangiovese is a deep ruby in color with layered aromas of baked red and black fruits. The nose is ripe with plum, black cherry, clove, currant, raspberry, cola, leather and dust. The palate is treated to an explosion of flavors with a lengthy finish showcasing dark chocolate and coffee. Moderately high tannins and a big, bold body with high acid, this is a perfect food wine. This wine is sure to get your engines revving!

Winemaker:
Bob Pepi
About the Winemaker:

Outside the wine industry Mario Andretti may be the more famous one, but within the wine community Bob Pepi is just as well known for his significant contributions, including his pioneering of the Sangiovese varietal. Pepi has over three decades of winemaking experience in Napa Valley and has been an integral part of the Andretti winemaking team from the beginning. He began by working the vineyards of his father’s land at a young age and then co-founded Robert Pepi Winery with his father. His philosophy, like that of the rest of the team at Andretti Winery, is that great wines are made in the vineyards. With Pepi in the lead, this winery is creating wines known for their lively fruit notes, excellent balance and intriguing complexity.

Food Pairing Suggestions:
Sangiovese is a very food friendly wine that can pair well with somewhat challenging dishes like tomato sauces or tomato-based items. This is because Sangiovese tends to have high acid, which bridges well with high acid foods. It also tends to be very dry, which balances fattier foods such as grilled red meat. Other foods that pair well with Sangiovese include grilled or roasted fish, and mushrooms or bean-based dishes.
