Tasting Notes:

Acumen 2015 Mountainside Red, Napa Valley, CA

As a point of reference, this vineyard is just a stone’s throw from the renowned Stagecoach Vineyard. These mountainside vineyards are notable for another reason. The 2015 vintage was spared not only the horrific fires that raged all around that year, but also smoke taint that could have flawed this incredible wine.

An ideal blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and the other Bordeaux varietals, a first glance of the vivid medium purple color indicates something special. Note the deeper, more concentrated color towards the center. It opens with delightful sweet fresh berry aromas up front, backed up with notes of earth, anise and lavender. Flavors of plum, blueberry, spice and a hint of caramel are balanced with just the right amount of grip.

Food Pairing Suggestions:
Cabernet Sauvignon, typically bold and powerful in style, works well for similar food accompaniments. If paired properly, it can produce a highly memorable dining experience. To compliment its stronger tannins, pair with richer meats like beef steaks, beef and pork roasts, venison, lamb and hamburgers. Also serve with mushroom dishes and meals seasoned with savory herbs and pepper. Experiment with a charcuterie plate including salami, cured meats and cheeses such as aged Gouda and Cheddar, Parmesan and Gruyere.
