“Years ago Joseph Phelps was a pioneer in [Coombsville] and discovered how wonderful the Cabernets were from this area.” –Paul Maroon, Owner, Maroon Vineyards
After many years of dreaming about a life in Napa Valley, it finally came true for me in the year 2000 when we established Maroon Wines and Maroon Vineyards.
I moved to Napa from Portola Valley, CA and overnight became a wine grape grower with the help of my very talented vineyard manager Serafin Rubio. I really wanted to know what our grapes could do so I decided to make some wine from my grapes. I felt I could then honestly represent the grapes I was selling to other wineries. It was a very busy year in the valley so finding a winemaker was not an easy task. However I got very lucky and was able to have Chris Corley from the Napa Corley family as my winemaker.
Cellar Angels’ CEO Martin Cody interviews Paul Maroon
“This is Cabernet country here without a doubt; probably some of the best Cabs in the world.”
The wines Chris made for us were out of this world and have continued to get better with each harvest. We only made a small amount of wine in 2000 but it was so good we just had to make more and more with the help of my General Manager Kelly Darter. I could not have done it without Kelly.
This year was our 14th harvest and a magnificent year in Napa Valley. Not only did we get wonderful quality we also had a bountiful harvest. It is not often that you get quality and quantity in the same year. We hope to continue making the same great wines for many years to come.
