Cabernet flows through William Ballentine’s veins. The fourth generation in a family of winemakers, his father’s side of the family has owned vineyards in California’s Napa Valley since 1922 and his maternal great-grandfather started a winery in the valley around 1906.

In 1971 Lupe was working for Sterling Vineyards when Peter Newton offered Lupe the opportunity to join him in the creation of a new winery in the Spring Mountain District of St. Helena.

By all accounts, the quality of the 2013 vintage rivals that of 2012. 

The weather throughout the Petaluma Gap region during the 2013 growing season (Apr-Oct) was slightly warmer and sunnier with higher humidity, compared to the previous 10 year average (2003-2012).
